With the holidays and Black Friday just around the corner,
restaurateurs and retailers also are gearing up for Small Business Saturday.
Nov. 29 marks Small Business Saturday, the ceremonial kick-off
to the holiday shopping season for small businesses across the United States,
and the National Restaurant Association (NRA) is, for the fifth consecutive year,
supporting the initiative. The event was created in 2010 as a way to support
local businesses, which create the majority of job opportunities, boost the
economy and preserve communities around the country.
According to the U.S. Small Businesses Administration, small
businesses have accounted for 64 percent of net new private-sector jobs since
2012.
“We are proud to recognize the important role restaurants and
other small businesses play in helping to keep our economy healthy,” said Dawn
Sweeney, the NRA’s president and CEO. “It is no secret the jobs they create and
culture they instill are crucial to the well-being of our communities.”
